Dumpling Making & Bowling: Fri, Jan 29

January 27, 2010

Similarities Between Dumpling Making and Bowling…hmm…this is tough one.  Well, I guess one thing is that they both give you three choices.  For dumplings, you can either 1) steam them, 2) boil them, or 3) fry them.  For bowling a bowling ball, you can either 1) gutter, 2) hit some pins, or 3) get a strike.

And there are three different reactions when you do get that strike… 1) not react, as if you expected it, 2) high five everyone in excitement, or 3) dance.

A previous post illustrates other reactions.

One last similarity, we will be doing both this coming Friday =) (6pm @ GP)

Game Night at Gillson Lounge: Thurs, Jan 28, 7:30pm

January 26, 2010

“No human being is innocent, but there is a class of innocent human actions called Games.”  W. H. Auden

Gillson Lounge: by day a lounge filled students laboriously passing time, sitting in comfortable sofas, admiring the recent unceasing string of overcast and rainy weather, counting the leaves on the nearby tree.

At night (specifically Thursday at 7:30pm), a lounge filled with excitement, snacks, games, joy, human activity, new friends.

Take shelter from the rain in Gillson Lounge Thursday night!

Winter Retreat: Fri-Sun

January 19, 2010

The Winter Retreat is coming up and we are all so excited.  Looking forward to retreating from the pressures of school, retreating from distractions, retreating from our normal routines.  The retreat is simply a time of concentrated focus, learning about God, setting a clear trajectory for the rest of the semester.  If you are still deciding on whether to go or not, we highly urge you to go, to take a little time out to come to the retreat.  It’s only January, but maybe the Winter Retreat will be the highlight of your year.

Spring Welcome Night: Thurs, 2/4/10

January 14, 2010

“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.”

Spring semester is quite different from fall semester, feeling less like a beginning of a race and more like the 14th mile in a marathon. Spring semester has students that are more seasoned after learning lessons (in and out of the classroom) in the fall, and provides a wonderful 1-week reward mid-semester called Spring Break.

For Koinonia, spring is also very different. After a long winter of hibernation, Koinonia has renewed energy in the spring, similar to energy derived from a nice night of sleep after many weeks of sleep deprivation. Koinonia also understands that nothing symbolizes recovery from winter like some good food, a live skit, and lots of fun and content.
